David Vooris, Owner & Head Coach

David, also known around the gym as Hawk, is the fearless leader of Nasty Habit CrossFit. David has always loved keeping active, whether it be through exercise, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, etc. Sitting still is not something he knows how to do! When he was introduced to CrossFit, he became hooked. His aim is to provide supportive coaching and a fun environment where everyone can meet their fitness goals.

Valerie Stevens, Coach

Valerie started CrossFit in 2013 and has been hooked ever since. She got hooked to the feeling of being strong but more importantly to the feeling of being empowered as a female athlete and supported by the amazing CrossFit community. She feels that fitness should be fun and that your daily hour in the gym should not only make you more fit, but also help relieve stress and lift your spirits.

Favorite WOD: Chippers, but 16.5 cause I love the burpees and the pain

William (BJ) Schuetze, Coach

BJ has always been interested in how the human body works, which is what drew him to EMS in 1997.  He has been a paramedic since 2004, works for a local fire department and is an instructor for MA Fire Academy.  He was encouraged to try Nasty Habit CrossFit and quickly found his new favorite place to be while off duty.  He firmly believes that CrossFit’s programming has a direct and positive effect on all aspects of his life. It's one thing to be able to pick up 200 pounds and put it down again but it's another thing to be able to pick up 200 pounds and do something with it.

Taking his appreciation for CrossFit and desire to teach, BJ got his Level 1 certification. He is never shy about encouraging athletes to push themselves through the WOD, joke around, offer encouragement when needed and to celebrate successes.  He likes to see athletes get in a good workout and have fun doing it.  Just be prepared to hear the long answer to any of your questions.

Micah Gould, Coach

Micah first tried out CrossFit in 2012 and immediately became enthralled with the constant variation of movements from day to day. His interest in the medical field also fueled his desire to learn more about the how and why behind the methods of CrossFit. After hitting a plateau in his training, Micah discussed with his coach the next steps to take to break through and learned in the process that nutrition and diet habits play a major role in breaking through to that next level. He also places a premium on flexibility and mobility, as range of motion is key to a healthy life.

After 5 years of training as a CrossFit athlete, Micah got his Level 1 certification so that he could pass along all the knowledge he had gained over the years. He believes that knowledge is power, and anyone that wants to listen will get a healthy dose of it. He continues to pursue more knowledge and is studying to get into the field of Physical Therapy. He believes that each gym session should be fun, encouraging, empowering, but most of all it should leave you hungry for more.

Favorite WOD: Anything with Gymnastics movements, but especially muscle-ups

Matt Smelcer, Coach

Matt started out as an athlete at Nasty Habit in early 2017. He sough out CrossFit as an alternative to his fitness regimen at the time (walking up and down the stairs to get some snowflake rolls). He made the transition from athlete to coach after seeing the impact that CrossFit can have on people’s lives.

Matt is a radio frequency engineer (he makes your cell phone work) and is the resident techy, so he can coach your computer back to health. He has 2 mini huskies that shed like crazy, so if you see him covered in dog fur at the gym, you’ll know why.
